Jurisdiction
The Law applies to all Citizens and their Children, regardless of their geographic location, including, but not limited to, whether on or off Ndakiiminon, or as to their Indian Status and to all other persons residing on Ndakiiminon.
The following steps are to be observed and adhere to in the event that a Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation child, parent or family comes to the attention any or all Child and Family Services Agencies:
Emergency and On-Call
- Respond to the call and assure the safety and security of the child or children;
- Provide any or all on-call services and complete all or any investigative reports as required;
- Contact Aakwiinowin Family Services immediately or within 12 hours after the incident;
- Plan with Aakwiinowin Family Services that process and procedures for a case transfer.
- The Agency shall transfer any or all unredacted reports to Aakwiinowin Family Services;
- Aakwiinowin Family Services reserves the right to reassess, plan and extend services;
- Aakwiinowin Family Services assumes full control the case.
Active Case Files
- All Agencies are strongly advised to review all their files to determine the jurisdiction of children, parents and families;
- Upon the discovery that there are Gakijiwanong Anishinaabe Nation children, parents and families the Agency shall contact Aakwiinowin Family Services immediately or within 24 hours after the discovery;
- Aakwiinowin Family Services and the Agency will plan for a case transfer.
- The Agency shall transfer any or all unredacted reports to Aakwiinowin Family Services;
- Aakwiinowin Family Services reserves the right to reassess, plan and extend services;
- Aakwiinowin Family Services assumes the case.
